Do's & Dont's

Define the steps clearly
In the breadcrumb, whenever the user jumps from section to section, a step appears.

The best way to avoid unnecesary steps, is to have a good understanding of the site application map, which you can get by familiarizing with other navigation components as the Header menu.
Avoid unnecesarily long breadcrumbs
Always consider that the breadcrumb has a secondary role on assisting the user to navigate, differently from a Header or a Menu.

Is important to user short-captioning and to attach to the text single-line layout, to keep its compact appearance.
